Knock Knock: Having Trouble Expressing How You Feel?

We run into a lot of scenarios in our lives that stir up our emotions – good, bad or indifferent that demand a response. Sometimes an apology needs to be issued, or clarification is needed. As hard as some of us try to manage our time to multitask and accomplish the daily chores that must get done without some schmuck cutting off in traffic, or having a worthless coworker failing to pass along some vital information… words fail us. Hey, we’ve all been there as either a giver or receiver. Communication can be tough at times! For those times when I wish I had signed up for the professional mind reading seminar to understand the opposite sex or when a Curly moment (from the Three Stooges) kicks in:

“I’m trying to think but nothing happens!”… I just need a little help.

Fortunately an innovative set of tools is available to help express our emotions and relieve that inner turmoil !

A Blessing Indeed - Art in Motion

I was heading home tonight after getting a haircut to prep for some meetings and potential job interviews for Wednesday. A whole lot was on my mind as I was driving down West End Avenue when to my right in the shadows of a strip mall I saw a lady painting away with her easel set up on the sidewalk.

Curious, I made the long six around the block loop to check it out. I'm glad I did, as I met Peggy Ann Snow putting the final touches on her painting of Vandyland a "counter-and-booth sweet shop near Vanderbilt University". which I think is out of business - not sure.

Nonetheless, Ms. Snow was absolutely gracious in letting me take photos as she was finishing her painting. She showed me a photo of a painting of a house on Acklen Avenue....

and was anticipating having her paintings on exhibit soon at the Tin Angel Restaurant down the street.

I asked for permission to blog about meeting her and after swapping business cards, she blessed me with a print of the old Jackson Building where Walgreens now sits at the corner of Blakemore and West End.

She definately added some culture to West End Avenue and I enjoyed the conversation - it was precisely what I needed to lift my spirits while enjoying the company of a stranger - or maybe I was being entertained by an angel.

I'm so grateful...

I so far behind on my days with this photo a day thing - some days it feels like a Monday or a Friday afternoon - that's when the devil makes his round to screw up peoples' weekends.

This day job hunt is tedious and lots of work - but I've gotta keep pushing on until I get a yes or no - maybes' are a killer.

Thankfully, a lot of friends are putting their hands to the plow for me - I'm so grateful... but yet starting to feel extremely tired... and tired of it.

Which just blows my mind when I saw this sticker today...

My spirit needs to be healed and made whole, so I can be prosperous to whatever I put my hands to.

And for others as well... you know who you are !

Pay Attention to Details

I get these great sermon applications from Alan Smith who pastors at Helen Street Church of Christ in Fayetteville, North Carolina...

This particular one made laugh out loud - nutty professors are everywhere!

A small bottle containing urine sat on the desk of Sir William Osler. He was then the eminent professor of medicine at Oxford University. Sitting before him was a classroom full of young wide-eyed medical students listening to his lecture on the importance of observing details. To emphasize his point, he reached down and picked up the bottle. Holding it high, he announced: "This bottle contains a urine sample for analysis. It's often possible by testing it to determine the disease from which the patient suffers."

Suiting action to words, he dipped a finger into the urine and then into his mouth as he continued: "Now I am going to pass this bottle around. Each of you please do exactly as I did. Perhaps we can learn the importance of this technique and diagnose the case."

The bottle made its way from row to row as each student gingerly poked his finger in and bravely sampled the contents with a frown. Dr. Osler then retrieved the bottle and startled his students with these words: "Gentlemen, now you will understand what I mean when I speak about details. Had you been observant, you would have seen that I put my index finger into the bottle but my middle finger into my mouth."

Jesus put the same emphasis on the importance of paying attention to details. Consider how many times Jesus spoke the words:

"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" (Matthew 13:9)

In other words, "Pay attention! Listen closely to what I'm about to say." Far too often, we only half-listen (my wife will tell you that I'm especially prone to this whenever she's talking to me). We hear some of what is said, but we tend to miss many of the details (in my defense, I can usually come back from the store with three of the four items she told me to pick up!).

As serious as that tendency may be in our everyday lives, it can be deadly to us spiritually. Missing out on what Jesus has to say may mean the difference between eternal life and eternal death. So, pay attention! Listen carefully!

Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Rainbow/Dark Side of Oz

NOTE: I got a eMail this morning courtesy of my good friend and music aficionado Sharon Cobb as a perfect followup to the previous post. Thanks!

This DVD was created as evidence that Pink Floyd's 1973 release of "Darkside Of The Moon" and the 1939 release of "The Wizard of Oz" have some kind of a connection.

This connection is the fact that you can watch "The Wizard of Oz" and listen to "Darkside Of The Moon" and notice that they are synchronized. What I mean by this is that if the Album begins at the MGM Lion logo screen you will notice that the music matches perfectly with the things that are going on in the movie. Beats and guitars match almost every movement of the characters in some parts. Music shifts to different moods while the movie follows along perfectly.

(to do this with basic equipment is very difficult, and takes hours upon hours of correctly positioning the start of the album. That's why it has been done for you).

As soon as something exciting or dramatic happens to the characters, the music's mood shifts to match the scene so perfectly that it's almost scary.

You will also notice the lyrical matches. The lyrics of "Darkside Of The Moon" play the most important part of this whole connection. A lot of the lyrics actually seem to cue the characters to make actions in most parts. For example: the lyric "leave, but don't leave me" is sung just as Auntie Em motions to Dorothy to go away because she is busy. As Dorothy is leaving, the lyric "look around" is sung just before Dorothy looks back at Auntie Em. Sometimes the lyrics narrate the storyline of the "Wizard of Oz". The movie really begins to move when "Money" starts, The cash register sounds start up as soon as you see Dorothy in colour for the first time. The sounds represent the money spent on the Technicolor technology. Dorothy starts walking as the music to "Money" kicks in. As crazy as it may seem, it's almost as if Pink Floyd wrote and composed this album to go along with the "Wizard of Oz".

The most popular asked question to this DVD is, "is such and such a song on it"?.

The simple answer to this is, the entire "Darkside Album" Is on here 3 times! Your favourite songs feature and you will view them in a completely new and wierd way.

My favourite is During "great gig in the sky" Dorothy's house is sucked up into a violent tornado spinning her dizzy until it gently passes and she wakes up in her new technicolour world!.

So sit back, grab a beer and a smoke, and prepare to blown away into a psychedelic wonder land accompanied by the greatest ever rock band to grace the planet.

If interested in this DVD with High Quality glossy artwork and a Printed DVD (NOT a stuck on label) email me at plumpkatt1@aol.com for more information on how to obtain this DVD.

I was really drunk at the time...

This day in history...

Dark Side of the Moon is a 1973 concept album by Pink Floyd, dealing with the nature of the human experience through themes such as money, war, mental illness, and death. It is considered by many fans to be the band's magnum opus. It is estimated that one in every 14 people in the US under the age of 50 owns or owned a copy of this album; it is the third best-selling album of all time. Many fans claim that the album's music provides an alternative soundtrack to what 1939 film?

MORE courtesy of the FREE DICTIONARY.

Anybody heard the reggae version of the album by the Easy All Stars? Good stuff - Listen to Coverville's The Covered Side of the Moon presentation of Pink Floyd's classic LP from bluegrass to a cappella to orchestral and reggae.

These sculptures have been placed in public settings throughout the world, including Double Check, which depicts a businessman sitting on a bench going through his briefcase. Located on New York City’s Liberty Street near the World Trade Center, it has since become an impromptu memorial. Other sites where sculptures by J. I'm talking about chasing sunsets (or at least a photo op or hey! a refrigerator magnet) in every state. My plan was as soon as I got a new Honda Element off I go! I've researched how to see an NFL game in every city, heard of people taking an entire summer off to visit baseball stadiums and have contemplated making a UHaul trip from Nashville to Seattle once my son Gary & Nora are married.

I saw this vehicle in Berry Hill and immediately thought of the Ry Cooder - Crazy ’bout An Automobile song written by William R. Emerson

Some like anything as long as it rolls.

Building my faith

I just heard from a friend (that I never met in person, but callaborated on some projects) who relocated to a city only to be laid off.

El Sucko.

He just called to let me know that he got two offers yesterday and is starting a new job next week!

That's good news for him and for me as well, as we prayed together on the phone.

My faith just got stronger this morning.

The other two guys lie about it.

Me? I've been thinking (or internalizing) all these things all week that I'm ready to cave in from the weight on my shoulders. Time to fire up the resume writer and make a change.

When dreams are too bizarre...

Ever wake up from a bad dream or rather a dream so bizarre that you just want to wake up just to change the REM channels?

I did... twice.

My first dream was an entertainment director at the homeless shelter. There I was, all dressed up like a high school Phys Ed teacher, trying to pump up a lot of homeless guys with jumping jacks, hoops, running a few laps around the gym... I quit that job, sat up in bed to assess my options at 4 am. Too early for coffee, and too dark to stay awake to see the sunrise.

The second dream was working at a Cajun restaurant here in town. As soon as I saw him hoist a dog on the grill (which was not heated), I freaked out when he handed me a big plastic spatula. I rescued the dog and ran out of the restaurant, with him yelling "What's your problem !!!"

That's when I woke up and and said enough of this nonsense.

I'm facing the real world.

Daylight Savings Freakout Time

I suppose that history, like randomness and urban ledgends cycle around every seven years.

Y2K.

Daylight Savings Freakout Time.

Now that Congress has mandated Daylight Saving Time to be extended one month beginning for most of the United States at 2am on the Second Sunday in March to 2am on the First Sunday of November, some of the media in cahoots with the Chicken Littles in the IT world are wringing their hands over DST coming early.

Talking to an IT guy yesterday, Y2K (the biggest con ever perpetuated in the history of mankind) provided many folks with IT jobs. Now IT guy are picking up some extra OT spending money just by fixing some time changes and watching out for software bugs.

People are people. Some will forget to set their clocks; and just like every year, show up early / late for church, work or some appointment, or miss a airline flight... Lets' blame it on the Energy Act that President Bush signed back in 2005. George just can't catch a break.

At least with this "mini Y2K" it pushes Anna Nicole Smith off the news page, so that's a big plus!

Just before I go to bed on Saturday, I'll roam around the house and update all my clocks, PCs, servers and other gadgets... come Monday afternoon, I won't be (nor anyone else) will be complaining about the extra daylight.

No Daylight Savings Freaking Outing Time going on around here.

Two good songs from Ane Brun - My Lover Will Go and Rubber & Soul.

Ane Brun is a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist from Norway. I've been memerized by her music over the past several weeks after accidently stumbling across her songs at eMusic.com

In my mind I'm crawling on your floor
Vomiting and defeated
Total absence of grace
Your reluctant voice
saying; you decide your own fate

But I wear rubberbands round my soul
They keep me from crawling
And these rubberbands round my soul
they keep me from falling

So the web site asks: Do you ever wonder where that paper money in your pocket has been, or where it will go next?

NOT REALLY... After entering in the serial number, I'm told: This bill has travelled 5.6 Miles in 19 Days, 23 Hrs, 14 Mins at an average of 0.28 Miles per day.

Oh well, I've suddenly lost all interest and fascination finding out where George or his relatives have been. Wish they come home for a big reunion at my banking account.

Potty Tech

Back during the Y2K craze or the biggest con ever perpetuated in the history of humanity, as I like to remember that loss of insanity time, it was permissible to drink pee pee water ???

So this new techno thing to wash your hands is... I don't know what to say!

I still get weirded out seeing guys bring their beers into the bathroom, sitting it on top of the urinal, doing the biz and walking out without washing their hands. Heck, I'm getting so anal (or penile) about the lack of personal hygiene that I just might go to the no washy, no shakee rule.

Count it as a personal affirmation of your hygiene if I shake your hand; otherwise I just may implement a tap on the upper arm as my new handshake to just be nice to everybody. But I will call you out if no washy. 'Cause I can't enjoy my lunch.

Project 365 & Photography

I'm having a blast doing the Project 365 photo journaling, but somewhere I got off track by a day, so I'll have to do some minor adjusting and toss in a photo to keep my photos accurate for that particular day. It's not like I'm backdating for some stock options...

Nonetheless, I'm getting inspired by some good photos over at Flickr tagged project365 by others participating.

Tonight I was trying to get a good picture of the moon, but I'm running into my Kodak EasyShare Z730 limitations (no longer available). The 5.0 mega pixels and 4x optical zoom was the best value two years ago for the price.

Of course, shooting in darkness doesn't help, but I'm ready for a camera that does closeups (and moon shots) and photographs well in meeting rooms without a heavy use of flash.

I need to have someone coach me on aperture, depth of field settings and such... my old film camera worked well automatically, but the cost of processing two prints and a CD from a single 24 exposure APS roll was getting pricy at $25.00 a pop.

Today, I see Judie Hughes' unboxing-the-canon-digital-rebel-xti-400d over at the GearDiary site (that I write at) and I mentioned in the comments, "Jeez! I’m becoming like a modern day Pavlov’s Dog, drooling every time I see a unboxing and then going to Amazon.

Must. Get. Help."

Camera goes on the list for Christmas 2007!

Imagine three people sitting around at a table having a conversation. Joe asks a question in a loud voice. Fred responds. And everytime Fred responds, I fire up my boombox with a pulsating, bass driven, tick tick tick music. When Fred finishes, I put the boombox on pause.

That would be pretty irritating eh?

Talk radio does that a lot. ESPN Radio. Political shows like CrossFire, Hannity & Colmes, HardBall add to the sonic clutter with what seems like ten people talking at once.

Mrs. WonderDawg laughs at me when I yell out, "ONE AT A TIME PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE !!!"

Bill O'Reilly won't let anybody finish a thought.

I can't keep up with the Top 5 Countdown with Keith Olbermann with what number we are on? 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 ?

Then Fox News has all of the graphic intros and outros with the swooshes.

Nancy Grace, you're making me feel guilty.

Rita Cosby, please quit smoking.

My ears hurt.

I just want to process a simple conversation over a cup of coffee or tea at a kitchen table.

Without the boombox.

Cell phone off.

And take that silly ear roach off when we're at a restaurant.

I do.

We need to have a dialogue...

The Miracle of Dialogue.

Reuel L. Howe best summed up the importance of reconciliation in the following statement:

"Every man is a potential adversary, even those whom we love. Only through dialogue are we saved from this enmity toward one another. Dialogue is to love what blood is to the body. When the flow of blood stops, the body dies. When dialogue stops, love dies and resentment is born. But dialogue can restore a dead relationship. Indeed this is the miracle of dialogue - it can bring a relationship into being, and it can restore again a relationship that has died. There is only one qualification to these claims for dialogue. It must be mutual and perceived from both sides, and the parties must pursue it relentlessly."
