Holiday Greetings from WonderDawg

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all...

May we also, without prejudice, and with due regard for the force of law currently enacted, wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make weblogging great (not to imply that weblogging is necessarily greater than any other expressions of narcissism or area of choice), and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual orientation of the wishee. Further, no distinctions shall be made to platform used, whether LiveJournal, MySpace, Xanga, Yahoo! 360, WordPress, TypePad or Google's Blogger, old, new and especially Blogger Beta.

Webloggers may weblog about their anticipation of the holiday event(s), post photos and Flickr links on their weblogs of themselves with other webloggers, and with absolutely no reason feel obligated to rush home to weblog about people who are webloggers without penalty or ridicule.

"Holiday" is not intended to, nor shall it be considered, limited to the usual Judeo-Christian celebrations or observances, or to such activities of any organised or ad hoc religious community, group, individual or belief (or lack thereof).

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.

This greeting is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

This greeting implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for the wishee her/himself or others, or responsibility for the consequences which may arise from the implementation or non-implementation of same.

Batteries are not included or necessary. A life with physical activity and exposure to occasional sunlight is highly recommended.

This greeting is void where prohibited by law and not necessarily limited by sarcasm, snarkiness, typographical errors or small fonts.

Warning: reading this greeting may result in you understanding its contents. Neither WonderDawg or any of its associated companies, employees, contractors, friends, webloggers, Flickr contacts, Blogroll, RSS feeders and animals can be held responsible for any enjoyment, or lack thereof, that this greeting may cause, no matter how severe than enjoyment (or lack thereof) may be. Holiday Lights for you and me!

After being cooped up with a sore throatkee, I needed to get out, shake off the cabin fever and survey the West Nashville area for some traditional Christmas yard decorating. From West Meade through Charlotte Park down Robertson Road over to Natchez Trace back through Centennial Park I went.

There is no such thing as tacky Christmas decorations in my book! Surely EVERYBODY had fun hanging the lights and assembling the big lawn ornaments... brings a smile to my face knowing that people are celebrating the Christmas holidays regardless of Griswold like tastes and efforts!

Bethany: Is your house on fire, Clark?
Clark: No, Aunt Bethany, those are the Christmas lights.

Here's a sample of some of my favorite houses... and Merry Christmas ya'll.

Simply Stunning

Saturday night we drove into the beautiful sunset into Madison, TN ....

to witness a simply stunning Christmas Choir Concert at Cornerstone Church.

Powerful choir singing classic Christmas songs and Christian worship music; kids singing Jingle Bells, ice skating on the stage, a brief Christmas message by Pastor Maury Davis and perhaps the highlight for me and many others, a song about "all I want for Christmas is a soldier coming home."

The warm welcome by members of the church, videos, outstanding production and technical effects coupled with enthusiam by the talented musicians and solists, performers and choir made for one of the most memorable and moving Christmas celebrations ever.

The nearly full house enjoyed the gift to the community from Cornerstone Church - highly impressive. Many thanks!

This Is So NOT Christmas!

I went undercover via spycam at Sam Walton's to show yo peeps this:

I couldn't bring myself to charge $24.95, photograph it and return it. I always thought Christmas traditions die hard, but with upside down trees, blue pointsettas and NOW Hip Hop Santa. I'm somewhat perplexed and disappointed to see Santa Clause dressed like this.

Would you own this? And why?

Tonite Was The Night...

A Festivus, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Solstice, Holiday Get-together Blogger Story:

After the Mothership landed in Berry Hill off Thompson Lane, during the time of Nashville Is Talking, bloggers [*] from the east, west, north, south and left of center came to Columbine Place. (* Footnote: Traditionally Wise Guys).

Then CeeElCee called the Funkenswine secretly and found out from them the exact time the party was to appeared. When WonderDawg realized that he had been ringmastered by the Funkenswine, the House of Woo was happy, and he gave a decree to the Queen Brittney of KRN to Evite all the bloggers in Berry Hill and its far flunged vicinity who were aggregated, two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Funkenswine.

And when they came from far away lands into the Mothership, the gifts they brought -- dog food, cat food and bottled refreshments, they saw the BBQ buffet with Milo the help, and chowed down, and made merry laughter, fuzzy pictures and festive talk . . . and all was well.

[*] funny, left, right, personable

Proof that evil reigns...

Proof that evil reigns... even on Christmas Day...

Just as the sun was rising this morning, a holiday hoodlum broke into the Bongo Java coffeehouse on Belmont Boulevard and absconded with the world-famous cinnamon bun that looks like Mother Teresa.

The Nun Bun has been stolen, its owner said today.

Store managers were alerted to someone breaking into the coffee shop at 6 a.m., Bongo Java owner Bob Bernstein said. He called police immediately, he said.

He believes that the culprit is someone angry over the shop displaying, in the form of a pastry, the nun renowned for her good deeds throughout the world. A jar of money next to the "Nun Bun" was not stolen.

"They went right for the bun," Bernstein said. "Unfortunately I think it's somebody who wanted to take it to destroy it."

The bun, which had been covered in shellac to preserve it, had been on display nearly 10 years.

Christmas bonus stuns employees

Anybody care to share their stories of Christmas bonuses? (Besides all you care to eat cookies?)

"At a time when several U.S. corporate executives stand accused of enriching themselves by looting the companies that employ them, Iowan Harry Stine has demonstrated what type of executive he is.

Stine, the founder of Stine Seed Co. in Adel, informed his 270 employees recently that they would be receiving a Christmas bonus from the company. This would not be a holiday turkey or a box of candy.

Stine gave employees $1,000 for each year of service to his company - more than $1 million in all."

Quotes on Christmas

"... Christians buy things. Lots of things. Especially during the Christmas season when we celebrate the birth of the man who said, 'Give up your possessions and follow me.'"
- David Waters, Memphis Commercial Appeal

"'At this festive season of the year, Mr. Scrooge,' said the gentleman taking up a pen, 'it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. ... We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices.'"
- Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

"So here comes Gabriel again, and what he says is 'Good tidings of great joy ... for all people.' ... That's why the shepherds are first: They represent all the nameless, all the working stiffs, the great wheeling population of the whole world."
- Walter Wangerin Jr., Preparing for Jesus

"1.9 billion Christmas cards are sent to friends and loved ones every year, making Christmas the largest card-sending occasion in the United States. The second largest is Valentine\'s Day, with approximately 192 million cards being given."
- Hallmark

"Despite our efforts to keep him out, God intrudes. The life of Jesus is bracketed by two impossibilities: a virgin's womb and an empty tomb. Jesus entered our world through a door marked 'No Entrance' and left through a door marked 'No Exit.'"
- Peter Larson, Prism (Jan/Feb 2001)

Go to Plan B for Last Minute Christmas Gift !!!

Obsessed as we are with Kyoto and Peak Oil, we had to report on this powerful indicator from a reliable source: "With winter's onset driving the demand for surface coal to record-high levels, the mineral's cost is now beyond the reach of low- and middle-income Americans who wish to punish their naughty children."..."In today's market, children should only have their stockings stuffed with lumps of coal if they have been studious and obedient, and show an interest in long-term investments in the energy sector." Last minute Christmas gift!

"Jesus Hates it When You Smoke" Ashtray

Jesus, the Prince of Peace gazes balefully upwards at your approaching cigarette... How does that make you feel? 'JESUS HATES IT WHEN YOU SMOKE' reads the print inside this provocative, righteous ashtray. Sticker on bottom reads: "use of this product may be hazardous to your health and/or eternal soul". (This'd be a great soul-winning tool for those 'turn or burn' sign holders). They're a steal at just $12.00, available here.
