Eating out tonite....

...at Chef Yang's Chinese Buffet (all the king crab legs you can stand to eat) we were serenaded by a Chinese Muzak version of... (imagine The Last Emperor Soundtrack - stringed instruments, flutes, and various cymbals) the Beatles "Let It Be."

As usual the fortunes in the cookies were lame - "An routine task will be an extraordinary event." or "Now is the time to try something new."

Only if Mr. T wrote the fortunes:

"If you want to polish a relationship and make it glisten, all you really have to do is learn to listen."

It's nice to be liked! Especially when one's Geekineth Runneth Over and there's no mess to clean up in aisle five.

When one works and lives in the glow of the computer screen and underbelly of the software biz, it's cool to hear some flame free affirmation.

Cross Country research & advice needed

Just wondering, actually seriously wondering - has anyone ever driven cross country ?

I'm thinking about doing a trip from Nashville to Seattle to help my son transport his car.

We've always wanted to see an NFL game in every city, but this trip won't allow it with some of the cities Google Maps is mentioning with the exception of Kansas City and St. Louis. Most likely, this trip will be during the week, but as long as I have my laptop and wifi connections along the way, I can still work.



Trip length is 2,455 miles (about 1 day 17 hours) according to Google...

I am anxious to visit Seattle, having never been there. No doubt, I'll take tons of pictures along the way. No video blogging aka Amanda - shaky cameras give me motion sickness.

Any advice? (besides NOT telling bad jokes and NOT pumping the gas pedal...) We want to do this on the cheap, as the main task is transporting a car. I'll be flying back via Southwest.

Should I have a theme / concept to document? Like Forrest Gump? A BBQ / food theme? Roadside attractions?

Return of the Number One Son

Over the weekend, we celebrated the return of our son Gary back from the Air Force boot camp in Altus, OK.

We haven't seen Gary since he left for basic training back in February as a loadmaster for those monster C-17 cargo planes. That position entails "reviewing aircraft weight and balance records and cargo manifest. Determines quantity of cargo and passengers or troops to be loaded and proper placement in aircraft."

Mrs. WonderDawg did a great job planning the welcome party as we had Gary's and his girl friend Nora's friends out as well as our extended family.

My wife has a great eye for landscaping (I just dig the holes and remove the big rocks...), table decorations and event coordination. Somebody should hire her!



The weather couldn't have been better Saturday as we dived into some catered pork and full menu from the Mothership BBQ (always excellent ! and ten times better catered !), relaxed with great conversation and watched UT football under the full moon with the projecter and screen. I had such a great time that I didn't take my usual 1000 photos.

As a proud father, it's a real blessing to see one's children grow into their destiny and purpose, to see them mature as adults and have great health and solid relationships. Here's Gary and his sister Megan:



Gary is headed to McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington.

And the biggest blessing? Gary announced his engagment to Nora!

We're gaining a daughter and a great set of inlaws:

OK, I'm driving back from Cool Springs mall on I-65 North when my daughter points out to my left, a head banging long haired dude in the old white Chevy.

I ease up next to him and he is frantically wearing out the air guitar.

With all four car windows rolled down.

At 70 MPH.

So, I'm amused, yet left wondering ...

Dude must be playing at a rock guitar concert in the midst of a 70 MPH hurricane winds.
