Day 8 of 365 photos in 2007...

Day 8 of 365 photos in 2007... photojournaling my way thru 2007!

Elvis is still rocking at Opry Mills...

Today is Elvis Presley's birthday - so I'm thinking the water cooler talk all across Memphis are memories of Elvis. I think it's time to gather up some friends and take a road trip to Graceland (for reasons I cannot explain). I've visited once before and it's a rare opportunity to see how a legend lived. How often do we ever get to walk through some famous house? There's the White House, the Monticello... I'm drawing a blank... I've brought my house from a now famous Christian musician some 22 years ago and once in a while, I'll have someone knock on the door asking to take a picture of the house.. but really there's nothing see inside other than this is where he took a shower.

Day 7 of 365 photos in 2007...

Day 7 of 365 photos in 2007... photojournaling my way thru 2007!

After today's heavy rains (probably because God and fan base crybabies like me were crying over our favorite football team - the Dallas Cowboys' loss), our creek in our back yard was rushing its banks with over four feet of rising water - the likes of which we haven't seen in many years. It's normally a trickle with enough deep spots for our dogs to swim in.

Speaking of the creek rising...

"Can you tell me the origin of the phrase 'God willing and the creek don't rise'?"

Answer:

Benjamin Hawkins, and the phrase would be correctly written as 'God willing and the Creek don't rise'. Hawkins, college-educated and a well-written man would never have made a grammatical error, so the capitalizion of Creek is the only way the phrase could make sense. He wrote it in response to a request from the President to return to our Nation's Capital and the reference is not to a creek, but The Creek Indian Nation. If the Creek "rose", Hawkins would have to be present to quell the rebellion. I believe that the phrase is somewhere in his preserved writings.

Cry like a baby

After wallowing in the Cowboys loss to the Seahawks last night by reviewing the TIVO'd game, taking in the commentary from pundits except Deion Sanders and Chris Berman, I'm left holding my analytical football scalpels trying to dissect a dead carcass. Why bother trying to figure out how the Cowboys let this game or even a promising season go down the toilet?

I'm giving myself a concussion thinking about the Cowboys.

I've watched four football games this weekend. (no feeling left in my spine)

I'm watching four football games next weekend. (what bandwagon do I jump on to feign enthusiam?)

Time to drop the cry towel. The NFL has a web site for adult crybabies like me. Answer five questions and a team will be selected for me....

Saints... ugh. Patriots... nope. Chargers... I'm going with the Chargers.

What's a Cowboys Fan to Do?

SEATTLE - The stars had been aligned for the Cowboys to pull off an improbable playoff win here at Qwest Field.

But quarterback Tony Romo bobbled the snap of a potential game-winning field goal and was stopped short of the first-down marker, allowing the Seattle Seahawks to escape with an improbable 21-20 wild-card win Saturday night.

Ok, I repent... it's just a football game. I did all the things to set the Cowboys up to win against the Seahawks - I shifted places on the sofa, wore the lucky shirt, ate a ton of homemade mac 'n' cheese, stayed focused on the stats, TIVO'ed the game...

My son Gary called me from Seattle when I was at the two minute warning part of the game.

I yelled out on the phone, "Gary! Don't tell me the score! I'm still watching!"

"Ok, call me back..."

So I'm watching the game unfold with the Cowboys 2nd and 10 at the ten yard line with 2 minutes left! Could it be that Gary is calling me to congratulate me on a big win? With Seattle leading 21 to 20, it was simple - score a TD or kick a winning field goal, not knowing what to expect but a victory and advancing to face the Chicago Bears after a thirteen year playoff drought...

But it ain't over until it's over and in the end, rather than a winning kick, I took a mental kick to the head with the mishandled snap.

Understand that I've taken jock abuse for forty three years of my life for being faithful to the Dallas Cowboys. The good times and the bad times and even the worse of times - one and fifteen. But I never jumped off the bandwagon.

There's alway next year! - we'll get our Cowboys fan swagger back; T.O will play for some arena football team; Jerry Jones will have a billion dollar playground for the 'Boys to play in and as always, we have our Tennessee Titans to cheer on with Vince Young!

Could be worse... I could be a long suffering Washington Redskins fan.

Excuse me while I dust off the Cowboy Church hymnal...

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Day 6 of 365 photos in 2007... photojournaling my way thru 2007!

Chris (Megan's BF) and I were strolling around Opry Mills at the Gibson Guitar Factory when I asked him to pose as a rock star. Here he is with a $3,500.00 Les Paul... now I can't imagine paying that kind of change... especially since I'm more bent on gadget stuff. Now if Chris was taking the picture I would be holding a 17" MacBook Pro at the Apple Store in one hand and $800 cash in the other...

Anyway, here is Chris Corley being free as the breeze, and always at ease as Guitarzan (without the Jungle Band).

Git it, git it, git it, git it...OW!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt - Memory

Photo Hunt 39: Memory

Theme: Memory | Join the Photo Hunt | View Blogroll | Visit participants.

Childhood memories are fun... and while being a teenager carries fond memories as well, I haven't met anybody willing to relive those years again!

Remember being knee high and having an older bother pushing you way up on the swings or the first time on a big slide that looked like it was twelve stories high? And it was ok to to play outside until dark when your momma would call out your name really loud for dinner?

Those were the days of innocence with great MEMORIES.

Excuse the dust...

I stayed up to remodel this WonderDawg blog since I was committed for the time being to using the NEW Blogger since it came out of Beta status. I'm stubborn enough to work through some of the kinks while trying to ignore some of the online distain expressed by the new version of Blogger. The biggest issue expressed is not having the feeds picked up by aggregators such as Nashville Is Talking where this blog has a tendency to fall off the database.

I think some of my initial hiccups came with using the Mac OS, as I really don't have the benefit of "what you see is what you get" when I start adding and arranging element blocks, probably because the interface is not 100% optimized for the Apple OS.

After creating an element block from these choices...

...moving them into place didn't automatically snap to a grid... I just had to move the page element into the general vicinity, sign out and log back in to see the changes.

The other minor thing is losing all the links (ALWAYS back up template data!!!) that I had going such as the sub categories of Visiting 100 Blogs in 100 Days, Local Bloggers That I Have Personally Eaten Lunch with at The Mothership and other side bar items. But it worked out as I shortened the length of all the sidebar links by eliminating the ones whose blogs were dormant. I can catch a posting via Bloglines, so it's no big deal for now except hurting someone's techno link love feelings.

I copied and pasted the link data from my template backup into the dialog box...

.. which was easier than mucking around in HTML code as I know just enough to be dangerous with.

The other feature I couldn't add in was the "target="_blank">XYZ part of HTML code that would open up a new page, rather than redirecting away from the home page. Not a big deal, but I prefer to have multiple windows open.

I did look at other blogger platforms such as WordPress, TypePad and iMac and considered the concept of having a web page like www.myname.com, but the thought of setting all that stuff up, paying a yearly fee and more importantly, moving over all the content was not something I wanted to tackle. Especially at 2 am.

As for now, I think I got this NEW Blogger down. I get the daily dosage of my reading done using Bloglines where I have 374 feeds coming in and should I get behind, I just simply mark them READ.

Now If I can just concentrate on learning how to type...
